The Sydney Opera House was supposed to cost $7 million dollars to build in 4 years, but it ended up costing $102 million dollars in 14 years instead. More than 10,000 construction workers were involved in this huge job. Inside the Sydney Opera House there are 6 venue rooms. The concert hall alone can hold 2,679 people. More than 10.9 million people visit the building every year. There are dozens of concerts performed there every year. The first person to perform at the Sydney Opera House was a man named Paul Robeson. In 1960, he scaled the scaffolding and sang “Ol’ Man River” to the construction workers as they ate lunch. Arnold Schwarzenegger won his final “Mr. Olympia” bodybuilding title in 1980 in the concert hall. The Sydney Opera house is an amazing piece of architecture that promotes the arts.
