Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and in 1988 it was enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Chichen Itza is a large temple. The term “Chichen Itza” means “mouth of Itza”. Itza was a group of Mayans that had risen to power around the Yucatan Peninsula. The Mayans built many temples and other structures for sacrifice and other purposes. This is a huge part of the economy as over 500,000 people visit the monuments every single year. Chichen Itza is a very cool way to see what the past was like and learn more about the history of our planet.
