Middle school wrestling may be over, and highschool started last year, but on January 6th USA Wrestling started. USA wrestling is not a school-sanctioned sport, but kids from ages 4 to 16 can participate. Kids may enter tournaments clear to Helena Mt, for the Montana open. The brackets will be separated by age and weight instead of just weight like in middle school.

Practices are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Monday practices start at 6 pm and end at 7:30 pm, these practices are for the “advanced” kids. Tuesday practices start at 5:30 pm and end at 6:15 pm (little kid practice) at 6:15 pm to 8:00 pm is the older kid practice. Thursdays are the same as Tuesdays. Advanced wrestlers may go to the little kid practice and help coach since there are about 50 participating in that practice. This year in total 87 kids signed up to wrestle. On the first Monday practice, all 87 kids showed up.

The coaches this year are Steven French, Guy Grant, and Keith Grant. Most kids that do USA Wrestling improve over the years, and sometimes go to take High School State titles. USA is great practice for anyone that would like to start wrestling or improve on their technique.

Micah Grant, a wrestler for 9 years, claims, “Practice helps a lot. Like I would wrestle with my younger cousin Kannon and he wouldn’t last long against me. Now that he does USA and practices a lot more he lasts longer not just against me but against other kids as well.”
